You will definitely be required to obtain that credential and some of the dealerships will also ask that you also obtain an ASE certification.

In order to get a position as an automotive service adviser you will need a couple years experience in both dealership relations and automotive technology. Along with all of this there will be specific duties that advisers will have to take on.

Long hours are going to be one of the biggest things that most dealerships just can’t compromise on. Being able to perform the tasks required on an extended hour basis is a must in this particular field.

Customer service will be priority one for anyone who works in this field. You will not only be asked to meet with the clients, but also need to schedule and keep daily appointments and provide them with the information they need no matter what they are asking.

Since there will be so much scheduling and paperwork that is involved having good organization skills will be important. There is no tolerance in any dealership for shabby administrative skills as the book work will be very unforgiving.

There will always be times when a job is running late or has to be delayed due to a part having to be ordered. As the service advisor, it will be up to you to keep both the customer and the service tech in the know about everything that is going on. You will also have to ensure that the client is satisfied with the service that is being provided.

There is a lot of skills and dedication that goes into being an automotive service training. There will be extended hours to contend with and dissatisfied customers to be dealt with. Yet, there is no other job in the automotive field with automotive adviser training that will bring you the personal rewards that this future career brings.
